In January of 2024, we started a special job at Camp Twin Lakes in Winder, GA. Below is the story from one of our plumbers accompanied by some photos:
To some people, their job is just a place to go and make money to pay bills and sustain a lifestyle. As for me, I have always looked for a way to connect with people and to serve. Camp Twin Lakes of Winder, Georgia, is one of those jobs I will never forget.
Plumbing is a great opportunity to make money, no doubt, but it is also a service to the community. Starting March 1, 2024 there will be hundreds of children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and other life changes, entering the gates of Camp Twin Lakes, to a whole new experience. In previous years, staff juggled kids from cabin to cabin because of mainline sewer blockages.
This took away precious time that volunteers have with the kids to give them an unforgettable experience. This year, Royal Flush Plumbing was allowed to bid on the project and do what no other competing plumbing company would offer. The impact of our work on the children’s camp experience was essential.
With only one goal in mind, ensuring these children have camp, Hector and I teamed up to complete the task. The project began on January 3, 2024.
We had to hand dig all 16 units inside, tunnel under center walls nearly 5 to 7 feet across, and install new PVC drains to six bathrooms and showers in each unit.
On February 26th, 2024, we finished all the plumbing work and the concrete was poured into the final unit. We satisfied the deadline with time to spare. Inspiration and hope are just two simple words I think of when I think Camp Twin Lakes and I’ll end with a quote I read on a painted wooden sign outside the cabins: At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.” – Frida Kahlo.
